Name: Queen Poet
Gender: Mare
Species: Alicorn
Special Talent: Persuasion/Charm.

Gear: Poet, being Queen (and one with frighteningly powerful magic at that), has no need to carry her own tools and gear, all she carries with her is her kimono, and crown.
Appearance: Poet is a tall and slender pony, with a coat of dark purple, and a matching mane candy-striped with black. Her eyes are a soft light blue and have a natural essence of charm, and at times, intimidation. As apart of her title as Queen of Nova-Equestria, Poet wears an alabaster white kimono, dotted with flowers in various shades and tints of black and grey. Poet also possess something of a natural beauty, inherited from her mother, Princess Cadence of the Crystal Empire.
Personality: Poet is a pony with a very dynamic personality. She is very kind, and always quick to cheer up somepony who is having a bad day. Despite her position as Queen, Poet will often go out of her way to personally ensure that her subjects are comfortable with life in Nova-Equestria, and their lives are happy. On the other side of the coin, at times Poet can seem very cruel. She may make rash and shocking decisions that don’t suit her kind nature, though her heart is always in the right place while making these decisions. Kindness is cruelty after all.
Bio: Poet was born in the Crystal Empire, child of the leaders of the nation, Princess Cadence, and Prince Shining Armor. As a child, she lived a life of luxury and peace, taught by her caring mother and father to love all creatures and be kind. Eventually she was sent to Equestria to study magic with Princess Twilight Sparkle to fully understand her abilities, and capabilities as an alicorn.
In Equestria however, Poet was introduced to the concept of something she hadn’t encountered during her sheltered life as royalty. Zebra’s, and griffons. As a pony who was raised around nothing but other ponies, they were something of a subject of interest for her, though the more she delved into each culture, the more confused she became. Their respective cultures seemed to differentiate from Equestria’s, why they were here was beyond Poet.
She spent much of her adolescence pondering this fact, why Celestia permitted such different species to go to a nation of ponies. Under Twilight however, Poet was taught tolerance, and as such, she kept her rather intolerant thoughts to herself.
The remainder of her schooling days were a breeze. Poet was a natural for grasping new concepts and ideas, and rapidly matured into her position as an alicorn. Finally she was released from Twilight’s care, and returned to the Crystal Kingdom where she was given a small administrative job in order to prepare her for her larger duties as a princess one day.
However, as she continued her work, tensions between the Zebra homeland, and Equestria degraded at a rapid rate. It seemed every time the name of Equestria was mentioned, it was accompanied by bad news. Poet only wished she was surprised when war was announced.
News of war deeply disturbed Poet, whose first thought was of the ponies being sent to the front lines to fight the war. Tearing herself away from her small governing duties, Poet went to her mother and volunteered to host a radio program, to provide morale support, and news to the veterans. Poet made sure that the veterans were kept happy, taking music requests, and at one point reading letters from the soldiers families on air.
The war dragged on, and conditions worsened, though Poet persisted in her efforts. It wasn’t until one day while on air, Cadence came to her office with an expression of fear on her face. Poet had heard news of balefire bombs, though never expected either side would be desperate enough to use such weapons.
In order to save her daughter, Cadence sent Poet off planet, away to a distant, already inhabited planet known as Poveillia. Seeing Poet descend from the clouds in such a manner, the scattered villagers assumed she was something benevolent, and in some ways she was. When she landed, the villagers approached her with gifts, requesting she not hurt them.
Poet however, refused to accept their gifts, and instead only offered her leadership, and told them stories of Equestria, only impressing them further.
Under her leadership, the nation of ‘Nova-Equestria’ was formed, and prospered. It seemed just like the old Equestria, though Poet had to make assurances. In her experience on the new planet, she found there to be no griffons, or buffalo, only ponies, and zebras. She alienated herself against the zebra race, not only treating them with the same kindness as she treated her ponies with, but refused them rights within Nova-Equestria altogether.
As her time on Poveilla dragged on, she became staunchly aware that her nation was not alone. It first began as a behemoth storm cloud covering the capital in a shroud of shadow, and a sudden crack of thunder as a monstrous bolt of lightning blew a towering skyscaper to flecks of shrapnel, followed by a descent of foggy Pegasi from the sky. They set fire to Nova-Equestria’s settlements, massacred ponies, took other pegasi prisoner, and stole valuable resources.
Poet was outraged by the mysterious pegasi’s attacks, and personally demanded parley with their leader. A black armored pegasi with a similar smoke effect descended from the clouds and introduced himself as Lord Umbra of the Shadow Pegasi and cloud-valley of Nimbus. Poet demanded the attacks stop, and Umbra only chortled, and claimed that he coveted her lands. Umbra left shortly afterwards, though the stormcloud left. Poet was pleased, though that feeling quickly fled when the cloud returned a decade later and rained fire upon Nova-Equestria again.
Since then Poet had became bitter enemies with Umbra, going as far as discriminating against the sparse Shadow Pegasi population that Nova-Equestria had. Poet also became aware of another equine nation known as New Equinia. Poet, much preferring these sensible ponies to the conquest driven raiders of Nimbus has done as much as she can to keep relations positive with her fellow nation.
